the plants name is called “makahiya” and hiya in tagalog means “shy”.whenever you touch the plants leaves, they immediately fold up together looking as if its really shy hence the name.

As soon as the recess bells rang in the Philippines, all of the kids would race to the outer fence to touch all the “makahiyas.” We would make a game out of who got to touch and close the most number of them. Then we’d pick and eat fruit from the berry bushes that usually grew alongside them.
Ahhh!!! My childhood!
This is the “sleeping grass” Danny just taught me & M about the other day! It was awesome! I felt like a little kid in a playground, we just went around touching all of them till they were all closed. :D
